Cowboy Action Shooting

Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) is a target shooting sport for boys and girls that refuse to grow up.  We put on our cowboy type duds, strap on a pair of six guns, grab our long guns and saddle up (put the guns in the truck) and head for the range (gun range that is).

My handle is Papa Grande in honor of my beloved grandparents.  I am a member of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) #62116, and the South Texas Pistolaros, badge #85.  I shoot a pair of Taylor Uberti 1873 six guns along with a Hartford model '92, short rifle, all chambered in .44-WCF (.44-40).  My shotgun is a Stoeger, double barrel, Coach gun, chambered for 12 Ga.

By the grace of God, I got to work along side of Bill Roser, a.k.a. Dark Canyon.  Together, he and I endured two of the worst employers known to the business world.  Our shared experience forged a friendship that is stronger and more enduring than a Winchester rifle.  A finer friend a man couldn't ask for or expect to find.  I am truly blessed.

Bill, I mean Dark Canyon, got me hooked on Cowboy Action Shooting.  During a recent shoot a member of our posse, Natchez Bill, said this is the most fun a man can have with his pants on- or something like that.  Indeed the fun, for me at least, comes from dressing up like Roy Rogers, shooting period correct firearms, and yuking it up with my pards and pardettes.

I have much to be thankful for and when I count my blessings, Bill Roser and the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting are certainly among the blessings to be counted.
