Francisco Martinez and his wife (name unknown) settled in Nazas, Durango
after arriving from Spain.  They are thought to be from the northern area of Spain near the Pyrenees bordering France, but without definite proof.

The couple are believed to have settled and worked at a hacienda at
Nazas.  They had a daughter, Guadalupe (named for the new country's
saint), a son Juan, and another son Pedro, Papa Grande's Father.

Pedro left Nazas for Viesca to work as a blacksmith and gunsmith.  There he met and married, had a son named Manuel.  His wife died and he
remarried, Marcelina Moreno, Papa Grande's Mother.

They had 3 daughters,
Felicitas, Trinidad, and Maria Ignacia, and two sons, Severino and Pedro, Papa Grande.  All were raised in Viesca.

Marcelina Moreno (Papa Grande's Mother) was born in Zacatecas.  She and her family went to Viesca because her mother was ill, thought to be bewitched, and the
spring waters of Viesca would restore her health.
